Review: Palmers Shea Butter Cream

Let me be clear: I never really liked hand cream. Two reasons. First of all, I did not really need hand cream. Secondly, somehow I cannot stand my hands being greasy. I never really understood why people were interested in buttering up their hands. But after Lucy was born I totally understood!

A newborn does not really have a good resistance yet, so that means a lot of hand washing. Especially when I was still breastfeeding Lucy I had to wash my hands many times a day, as I used my finger to make sure I could get her of the breast (read: stop the vacuum of her sucking on my nipple). So making sure I was not poisoning her with all kinds of bad bacteria I have on my hands, I washed my hands a lot. And as a result, my hands started to feel like sand paper. It became so bad, that I was feeling sorry for Lucy when I was stroking her forehead to make her go to sleep. So it was time to get hand cream.

Not knowing a lot about hand cream it was sort of a hit and miss for me when I was standing in the shop. I knew I needed a cream that was not greasy (otherwise I would not use it) and was nurturing for my hands. The Palmers Shea Butter Formula hand cream caught my eye. I know shea butter is good for the skin and the shea butter was high up on the ingredients list. Next to that it contains vitamin E which is good for dry skin. And believe me, my hands were like the Sahara! What also convinced me to buy it was the fact that it is paraben free and not tested on animals.

The cream

Palmers Shea ButterThe tube contains 60 grams of cream. The cream is a thick constancy and smells nice but not very obvious. Shea butter itself also has a nice smell but not too much. The cream can also be used for elbows, knees and feet. Good to know, because my feet can also be very dry. Here is the list of ingredients:

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Butyrosperum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Glycine Soja (soybean) Oil, Di-PPG-3-Myristyl Ether Adipate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Demethicone, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Tocopheryl  Acetate, Isopropyl Myristate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Lecithin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal and Linalool.

My opinion

This is a lovely cream! Yes, you are reading it right. I love this cream! It is not greasy and after only one use I already felt an enormous difference. It is absorbed in the skin very quickly so you do not need to wait 5 minutes with your hands in the air (like you just don’t care ;-)) before you can do something again. So no worries that your phone or tablet become very greasy, because they will not. After first use my hands felt nice and soft. After using it for a week my hands feel like they are back to normal. Actually, they feel even better than normal. Yes, I can honestly say that I will continue to use this cream. FYI, my husband is also using this cream, he had the same dry hands problems as I had. I have not tried it on any other body parts like my feet. But I will do that soon.

Availability

The cream is available online and in the normal drug stores. I bought it for 3,49 Euro’s.
