MAC Eye Shadow 15x Neutral Palette Cool
Two weeks ago in London I purchased the MAC Eye Shadow 15x Neutral Palette, the cool version. I have been drooling over this palette for a while now, but I could not convince myself I really needed it. Yes, I know… That does not make any sense! 🙂 Also, according to the Dutch MACCosmetics website the palette costs 138 euro’s which I thought was too much. And I have the feeling I saw it for a different price in the shops. So maybe the website is wrong. In London I paid 65 GBP. As I was in a shopping-spree I bought this together with a foundation. I will review the foundation in a later article.
BTW, this palette is also available in a warm version. I must say that I was in doubt which one to buy. The lady from MAC-store said I could use both because I have brown eyes. Of course she did, she wants to sell as many items to me as possible. But in general I like cool colours better, so I bought the cool version.
Description of the palette
An Eye Shadow Palette in fifteen cool shades: Flounce, Sweet Allure, Sun Tweaked, Blackberry, After Dusk, Pick Me Up, Crushed Clove, Cozy Grey, Deception, Brun, Silver Fog, French Clay, Cumulus, Pearled Earth and Black Tied. The highly pigmented powder formula applies evenly, blends and builds beautifully. Source MACCosmetics.com.
And look at those beautiful colours! There are actually three different colour sets here with each mat and shiny colours:
- Row 1: Purple/Pink
- Row 2: Brown
- Row 3: Silver/Blue
I can already see that there are many nice look to be made by these.
The eye shadow have MAC-quality so the pigmentation is good. Although I must be honest that Flounce and Pick Me Up could have had a little bit more pigmentation. You can actually only use these as a highligher. And important tip: I advise to use a light hand with the 3 darker colours. Especially the Black Tied as this can give off a lot of pigmentation. So if you want a smokey look, start layering to make sure you do not put on too much at once.
Today I will be showing a look which mostly has the purple colours. I am a sucker for purple and wear it a lot on my eyes. So here is the purple look step by step.
First I start with an eyeshadow primer. The one I use is Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It makes sure that the colours come out better and the eyeshadow will actually stay in its place the whole day. After that I apply the Sun Tweaked from the palette on my eyelid and in my arcade bow. I use a Sephora Must Have Powder Shadow # 60 Brush. This a great brush that I use to apply the eyeshadow and to blend. And after that I apply the After Dusk colour on the outer half of my eyelid and on my arcade bow. I make sure I blend it well.
Then I take the Urban Decay brush that comes with the Naked Palette 2 and apply Black Berry in a V-shape in my crease and also apply it on my arcade bow. I use this brush because it is not as big as the Sephora brush and I can work a bit more precise with it. Please note that I start with a light hand and build the colour up to make sure I do not apply too much in one go.
After that I apply the Pick Me Up highlighter with the same Sephora brush as in step 1 under my eyebrow. I blend this with the Blackberry colour.
Next I take a small flat eyeshadow brush (brand unknown) and apply the Blackberry colour under my eye and also apply with the same brush the Silver Fog in the inner corner of my eye. I make sure that Silver Fog goes up to my arcade bow. But just 1/3 of the bow. This will light up the inner corner where normally shadow falls (like also in my picture :-p).
Now it is time to make the look more powerful. I am a person who always wears eyeliner. Today I applied the MAC MacroViolet Fluidline gel-liner with a obliquely cut brow brush. And as finishing touch I apply L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes in the colour Hazel Eyes. This mascara needs two layers to give the lashes enough impact. The purple gel-liner and the hazelnut coloured mascara give the eyes just a little bit softer look than when I would have used black for these items.
And e voila! This is the end result. A nice purple look. This look you can wear as an every day look or for an evening out. Although I would apply it a little bit heavier on a evening out.
